THE “Voice of Matat” community radio station goes live next month. The other radio station, Alfred Nzo Community Radio, went live in 2007. The station manager, Mphumzi Mashalaba, said they will broadcast in four languages and give Matatiele and Alfred Nzo Region residents a platform to voice their concerns and give comment. The station will broadcast 30% Xhosa, 28% English, 27% Sotho and 15% Afrikaans. “Most people from Matatiele speak Xhosa, English, Sotho and Afrikaans and we want to accommodate them. “We have many programmes that educate people about their rights and inform them about business opportunities,” said Mashalaba. According to the licence, the station is permitted to play 80% local music and 20% international music. It is also entitled to have 40% music and 60% talking.
